The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which has been on strike for some time has extended its strike by eight more weeks again. ASUU executives took the decision after meeting on Sunday evening. The meeting which was held at the University of Abuja, prompted the decision that ASUU extends strike for 8 more weeks.

This announcement follows the one month warning strike which expired Monday, 14, March 2022. According to Professor Abdulkadir Muhammad Danbazau, an official with ASUU, the latest decision to extend the strike is to allow the union and the federal government reach an agreement in other to avoid a future strike.

He said two months is enough for the apex government to do the right thing on the matter. Chris Ngige, who is the Minister of Labour and Employment, had said the Federal Government is working on measures to resolve the issues which led to the present strike by ASUU.

According to Ngige, the government has so far paid over N92 billion as part of implementation of the agreement reached with the union in December 2020.
